Butler Chapel Wedding Preparation
Alexandra and Derek were married on October 8th, with a ceremony at the Butler Chapel at Campbell University and a reception at the Dunn Recreation Department.
Alexandra and Derek’s Butler Chapel Wedding
The Butler Chapel is a gorgeous wedding venue, with a majestic organ and sanctuary with vaulted ceilings. With a bell tower and prayer room, a pool, a garden, and a path to walk, there is no shortage of places to get those perfect wedding portraits, either. As a photographer, I love chapels like this. It was perfectly suited to a gorgeous couple!
I started the morning photographing Alexandra and the details as she got ready, while Lauren Eckard, my primary second shooter, came a couple hours later to photograph Derek. Before the ceremony, we were able to stage first looks with both sets of parents as well as a first prayer between Alexandra and Derek. That first look between Alexandra and her father in particular made it so obvious that she is no doubt the apple of her father’s eye. I could see immediately how much he loved and cared for her and how proud he was of the woman she was—and I saw it later during their father/daughter dance, too.
That emphasis on family was typical of the whole day. In particular, Alexandra and Derek wanted to make sure that their family formals showcased everyone. Since weddings are one of the few times families can get those huge portraits of everyone together, we always make sure everyone looks great and the images are immaculate.
A DIY Disney Wedding
It was also fun to see the Disney theme shining through the entire wedding day. The reception décor (with a Disney-inspired wedding cake) was a wonderful DIY effort with help from family and friends. What’s more, Alexandra looked every part of the Disney princess that every bride should feel like on her wedding day. From her hair and makeup to her ballroom gown, she looked so majestic and royal.
Derek & Alexandra, your love for each other and your parents and the love that your parents have for you can serve as an inspiration to us all. I’m so privileged to witness love in all its many forms as a wedding photographer; it’s always unique to each couple and each family. I’m grateful to your entire family for letting me in to document this wonderful occasion for you!
