Between photographing weddings at Duke Chapel or engagement sessions + weddings at Duke Gardens, I’m on Duke University’s campus quite a bit. I’m sometimes asked by recently engaged couples what the purpose of an engagement session is. My response is that an engagement session allows couples to:
- enjoy time together
- in a setting of their choice
- celebrate their engagement
- with a look that matches their personal aesthetic
- enjoy your first professional photos together
- obtain images for your wedding website
- obtain images for your save the date
As you can see, there are PLENTY of reasons to have an engagement session. And there is plenty of freedom as to what your session will be like. You could opt for a formal Duke Gardens engagement session similar to Justin + Sedra, or you could opt for an adventurous Grandfather Mountain engagement session like Paul + Kate. Whatever you decide, be true to yourselves, and don’t be afraid to try something different you’ve been concealing deep inside!
