Summer Highgrove Estate Wedding

It was a very hot and humid summer day here in North Carolina, but everyone still looked amazing as we gathered for the ceremony overlooking Lake Laurel. The Bobby Moody Band serenaded the guests, with Bobby Moody himself on soprano saxophone. It perfectly set the tone for a relaxed summer wedding.

The Highgrove Estate is exactly the kind of Southern wedding venue made to match the summer heat and warm love, too. Highgrove Estate has a classic Southern feeling, with beautifully-kept lawns and a gorgeous seven-acre property. It’s exactly the kind of venue that I know so many brides picture when they hear “classic Southern wedding.” As a North Carolina wedding photographer, finding venues like Highgrove is so special. It evokes an elegant classicism, setting the perfect backdrop for timeless wedding photography.

The interior is breathtaking as well—and again, perfect for wedding photographers. The grand ballroom is a handsome reception venue. With its chandeliers, fireplaces, and natural lighting from gorgeous windows, I’m never at a loss for places to take beautifully-lit, awe-inspiring portraits with my couples. I’d highly recommend The Highgrove Estate to any couples looking for grandeur and romance.

After the ceremony overlooking the lake, the guests were refreshed with some cool drinks and hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour while I stole May and Kenneth away with their families for some portraits before the reception started. I especially liked how May changed into more ethnic attire to honor her Chinese heritage during the wedding.

My favorite moment, though, was during May and Kenneth’s first dance. It was the first time I had really seen them both open up and enjoy the moment, and the photography really reflects that. When couples feel comfortable enough to allow their emotions to show, that’s when the best pictures and the real magic happens.
