Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration for your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
Although I did not have a specific theme, I knew I wanted to mix old and new. Hence, choosing the Millennium Center as my venue. It is an old post office and has lots of “character.” I loved being able to mix old and new to create a simple, elegant space.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We met on the campus of Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem NC. Justin proposed on my 25th birthday after we had gone to dinner in our apartment. It was a complete surprise and very intimate, I appreciate him wanting to share the moment with
only me.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you choose your wedding day look? How did the groom? Describe both looks in detail.
I like to joke that my wedding dress was my “baby!” I gave her a name and everything. When I began searching for dresses I was sure I did not want a mermaid type gown, and sure enough that is what I bought. My dress was blush with an ivory overlay and had lace throughout the entire bodice and included a corset lace up back with sweetheart neckline. The bottom was a very full tulle and included an intricate lace trimming around the bottom. I love everything about it. I chose simple tear drop earrings and wore my hair down in curls. The groom was going for a very tailored look and wanted his tuxedo to fit him like glove. He wore a navy blue slim fit tux with platinum tie and vest. He chose brown shoes to compliment the tux.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
I used lots of white hydrangeas and added some coral tulips and roses for the color. We had an assortment of tall and short centerpieces that were used in both the ceremony and reception. My bridesmaids all carried small bouquets of white hydrangeas & my bouquet included tulips, roses, and hydrangeas.
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
One of the parts I really enjoyed was having my line sister from my sorority sing during my processional. It was very special to have included her in that manner.
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
I chose to go very simple. Tulips and hydrangeas were used as well as lots of candles for a romantic feel. Lighting was a top priority and I loved that the Millennium Center had so many choices.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Saying “I DO!”
