Millennium Center: So Many Options, So Much History
So, you’re looking for a great wedding venue? Picking the perfect place to get married is such a fun and personal experience. If finding a venue that is highly respected by previous couples is high on your priority list, the Millennium Center in Winston-Salem is a great local option. This venue has gotten WeddingWire’s “Couples’ Choice Award” every year since 2014. It has also received The Knot’s “Best of Weddings Award” man times. What makes this venue great?
The Options
Many wedding venues are perfect for a specific sized wedding party. One of the great things about the Millennium Center is that it can comfortably accommodate wedding parties of various sizes.
When it comes to your wedding ceremony, the Millennium Ballroom, on the main floor allows for 350 guests. The beautiful chandeliers provide a wonderful atmosphere for making a lasting commitment to your future spouse.
If you want a smaller ceremony, the Historic Courtroom on the upper level can accommodate up to 150 people. This allows you to share your special day with the people who matter most to you. Plus, it’s kind of fun to get married in a historic setting.
After getting married, you can enjoy a reception that perfectly fits with your style and preferences. If you want a huge reception, the ballroom and lobby combined can accommodate up 1,000 people cocktail-style and 600 people dining. This allows for a dance floor in the middle of the ballroom, which is a must for many couples.
For those wanting a more intimate reception, the courtroom allows for up to 100 guests dining and up to 150 guests if you do a cocktail reception. The grand jury room is also available for receptions with room for about 120-125 people.
The lower floor of the Millennium Center is perfect if you only have a small group. The Garden Room, which can also be used for small wedding ceremonies, has room for 50 guests dining and 100 cocktail-style. Next to the Garden Room is the Speak Easy. When combined with the Garden Room, it can accommodate about 100-150 more guests.
The History
One thing to love about this North Carolina wedding venue is its historic value. Built in 1906, it was originally used as the City of Winston’s Post Office. It has also been the region’s US Federal Building as well as providing offices for the US Federal Court, US Attorney, FBI, and other federal offices.
No matter where you get married in the venue, you are sharing your wedding day with a room that has significant historical importance. For example, the Historic Courtroom really was a courtroom. The ballroom was once a sorting office for the post office. The lower level, which now has a fun Prohibition Era mood to it, once had holding cells. There’s something fun about being able to say that you got married in a location with such a fun history.
Catering
Food is an important part of any wedding reception. Millennium Center provides its own catering services. One of the great things about their services is that you get the menu and mood you want. You can have a fun buffet-style meal. You can get plated dinners. You can even choose to have themed stations for your wedding.
They even provide a complimentary tasting for four. I like the idea that it’s not just you and your fiancé tasting the food. This allows you to get a few extra opinions on the food. Bring your two pickiest friends along for the tasting. Of course, ultimately, the food choice should be up to you and your future spouse, so don’t let your friends talk you out of a dish you love.
I love taking pictures at this venue. There are so many awesome photo opportunities. Millennium Center is an indoor wedding venue that radiates elegance. Your outdoor pictures with the beautiful, historic column are also sure to turn out wonderful. If you would like to get a feel for what you can expect from wedding pictures at this venue, be sure to take a look at some of the photos I’ve taken here. I love being a part of so many couples’ special day, and I hope that I can be a part of yours.
