Participating in this Old Lystra Inn Wedding Styled Shoot provided a way for creatives to “create” and show the diversity of ability within their wheelhouse.
Utilizing the amazing natural scape of the surrounding woodland setting, Jocelyn Warren of a Paradigm Shift Events, designed the first set to employ bold fall hues of navy and merlot with a mythical, bohemian, almost Narnian, flair. Dajuan Jones of In His Image Photography shot this set using a backdrop of gnarled oaks and an ancient log cabin to set the tone for the deep, rich colors and vibrant florals provided by the Flower Cupboard of Cary.
Beth Pendola, new owner of The Old Lystra Inn, grew up in a 350 year old farmhouse in a small village 60 miles outside of London. Since those cherished childhood years, she has been itching to breathe new life into a historic home with character. These homes are meant to be shared, according to Beth and her husband Tony, and the couple plans to do just that. The Old Lystra Inn, once home to Chapel Hill icon and Pulitzer Prize winner, Paul Green, has the history the couple was looking for. The 1890’s farmhouse, sits among towering magnolias and majestic oak trees as ancient and lovely as the house itself. But not only are Beth and Tony breathing new life into the home, they are breathing new life into Chapel Hill’s only bed and breakfast & wedding venue. Formerly known as Windy Oaks Inn, the home is no stranger to overnight guests and marriage celebrations. Windy Oaks closed its doors some ten years ago and has been sitting vacant, just waiting to be reimagined. In step Beth and Tony, excited for the challenge ahead of them and even more excited to share their new home with area newlyweds and overnight guests.
The reinvention of The Old Lystra Inn is a labor of love for the Pendola family. Since the closing of Windy Oaks, the interior has been completely gutted and renovated, seamlessly blending traditional elements like reclaimed heart pine flooring and period tile work with modern accents including polished chrome lighting and enormous slabs of Carrera marble. The next project the Pendolas will take on is a complete renovation of the landscaping, carefully preserving each and every beloved tree, but creating several inviting and unique spaces for ceremonies, rehearsal dinners and receptions, all with the goal to provide the versatility and individualization that today’s brides are looking for in a venue.

Old Lystra Inn Wedding Reception Inspiration
One of the reasons I was excited to participate in this inspirational styled shoot was to show that I’m more than just a ballroom wedding photographer. I’m known for photographing elegant weddings and receptions in grand ballrooms. It’s something I’m sought out for by my amazing clients celebrating their weddings at the many prestigious Raleigh wedding venues. However, I wanted to share a different style and aesthetic that I also enjoy.
