Share with us how you two met:
Jermaine and I met through a mutual friend one night when he was taking me home from the hospital after visiting a friend.
Tell us about your proposal:
Jay and I went to Charlotte for his birthday to hang out with one of my best friends and her husband. Jermaine decided he was going to propose to me during dinner at a restaurant, but we ended up grilling out instead. So Jermaine called my sister, and told her to get my family and our friends together, that we would cookout, and he would propose at our house when the time was right. Once all of the food was cooked, we gathered in a circle to pray and my sister insisted that I bless the food. While I was praying, Jay pulled the ring out and once we all said “Amen” he stopped everyone, thanked them for coming to celebrate his birthday, and let us know that we were all really there so he could ask me to marry him.
Tell us about your hair & makeup:
I chose FBK Makeup Studios for my bridal party. They have great reviews, are very professional and I absolutely love Kiannah’s work. My hair was done by Charisma Brockington at Charismatic Stylez in Raleigh at 154 Wind Chime Court.
Describe your wedding dress. What was wedding shopping like for you?
When I went to look for my dress I knew I wanted it to be fitted and strapless, and I didn’t want to go to the same places that most brides go. My dress was the first dress I chose and tried on. I instantly fell in love with it! No matter how good I looked in other dresses, they didn’t make me feel like a bride. I went shopping with two of my bridesmaids that day. And although my sister, who is my BEST FRIEND, wasn’t present to see, her approval was a must. While looking for my bridesmaids’ dresses I tried on three dresses. My girls all cried and told me how beautiful I looked at them but they WEREN’T MY DRESS! I didn’t have that same feeling as I did with the one I chose. So finally, I took my sister to see me in my dress and she said, “yes Tee, that’s the one.” :)
How about your wedding shoes and jewelry:
I went to New York for my birthday and I chose a pair of shoes and a matching purse. I just knew they were going to be my wedding shoes, however, two months before the big day I went into Macy’s and found the perfect pair. And to my surprise, they were on clearance too lol! So I changed my mind and I am glad I did. My jewelry came from Merle Norman in Burlington.
Tell us about your flowers:
I chose Calla Lilies and Roses because they are my favorite flowers. I added hydrangeas because they are just plain gorgeous and the perfect wedding flower.
Tell us about his groomsmen:
Each one of Jermaine’s groomsmen has been his friend for over 10 plus years. They genuinely have his well-being at heart.
Tell us about your bridesmaids:
I feel like God blessed me with the greatest group of friends on earth. My bridesmaids not only cover me in prayer but they always have my best interest at heart. I couldn’t imagine my wedding day without any one of them. They are 9 beautiful ladies who made my day one that I will never forget. Two of them are my cousins, three were my classmates, two I met through my job, one I met through my sister, and one is my husband’s best friend’s fiancé.
Any bridesmaids/groomsmen gifts?
I gave each of my bridesmaids’ robes, coffee mugs, tote bags, journals, and their earrings for the wedding day. Jermaine gave each groomsmen initialed beer mugs, alcohol, shot glasses, men’s shower gel and socks to wear on the wedding day.
The Gardens at Landmark
How / why did you choose your ceremony venue:
I chose the Landmark for two reasons, the first reason is that it is absolutely beautiful! I wanted to get married in a garden and the Landmark is one of the most beautiful gardens I have ever seen. Secondly, none of my guest or family, with the exception of one of my best friends and sister, had ever been there before.
What’s your favorite image from your wedding day, and why:
I had a few, when I laid eyes on Jermaine for the first time when I was dressed and we prayed with the preacher in my dressing room, and when Jermaine and I entered the reception.
Was there any particular theme or style for your wedding:
Our theme was “Love and Happiness.”
What is your best memory from your wedding?
Seeing my grandmother, who had been hospitalized and I was told she wouldn’t be able to make it. Initially, I was going to get married on a cruise ship, however, when my grandmother was diagnosed with Dementia, I decided to get married here instead. My grandmother would always tell me about what she was going to wear to my wedding, and I couldn’t bare telling her she wouldn’t be able to attend. I don’t regret my decision.
Tell us about your wedding photography:
Dajuan is a God sent, my wedding will be a day I will never forget and I owe a lot of that to him. He captured moments that were priceless to Jermaine and I. He’s professional, courteous, helpful, friendly and very detailed. I have to thank my friend Rod Charles for recommending him because I actually asked him if he would be my photographer and he referred me to In His Image Photography. I am so glad he did! To us, Dajuan wasn’t just our photographer, he has become a friend and we will forever be grateful for him.
And your videographer (if you had one):
We chose Wedding Bug to do our videography. They did an excellent job, and I was pleased with their work. Our videographer was great, he was on time, got great moments and wonderful coverage of our family and friends wishing us well and giving us their blessings.
The Hall at Landmark
Tell us about your reception venue
Our reception was held on the 3rd floor of the Landmark building. The room decor matched our wedding colors, of gold and ivory.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
Keep God First! Love hard and pray harder. Keep family and friends out of your personal business, and try to stick to your budget. Don’t rush it, if it’s meant to be it will be.
Favorite item on the reception menu:
My favorite item on the menu was the loaded mashed potatoes and the Southwestern bean dip. Several people have asked me about the recipe and where to purchase some for themselves.
And your decorations:
My bridal bouquet, flowers for my wedding party, and our table décor for my reception was all done by Angie Smith Floral Designs.
Tell us about your wedding planner:
I didn’t have a wedding planner. My sister, Alesha Foushee-Washington and I planned the entire day. For years we have planned weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, candy stations, birthday parties, graduation parties, retirement events, etc. so we were well aware of what to do.
And your cake:
Our wedding cake was made by Simply Cakes in Cary, it was three flavors – Strawberry shortcake with fresh strawberries and a barvarian crème filling, a double chocolate cake with an oreo cookie crème filling and a lemon cake with a lemon crème filling. I must say my wedding was the only wedding I have ever been to where the entire wedding cake was eaten. THEY LOVED IT!
What songs did you choose for your wedding ceremony and reception, and why:
Jermaine is also a DJ, so the songs, as well as the food, had to be on point. He chose all of the songs except the song our parents entered in on, which was “Love” by Kirk Franklin, I chose that. Jermaine listens to the words of every song and has always said, “I have to feel it!” The song he loved the most was the song I walked in on which was “Why I love you” by Major, he cried when he heard it and said, “Hunny, you have got to hear this song, I want you to come down the aisle to it.”
Tell us about your honeymoon:
We took an eight-day cruise to Aruba, Dominican Republic, Curacao, and Grand Turk Island.
Any advice for future brides:
Surround yourself with people who are genuinely happy for you and your husband. Don’t stress over things that you can’t change. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and do what makes you both happy because IT IS YOUR DAY!
Any final thoughts:
This has been one of the greatest days of my life, I wouldn’t change a thing. I married my soulmate who loves me unconditionally. I couldn’t ask God for anything better.
